PLUS ULTRA bamboo toothbrushes are perfect for every smile. Each toothbrush has a positive affirmation etched in the handle, so you can choose your favorite. And you're doing something good for the planet.
Our bamboo toothbrushes are an eco-friendly alternative to plastic toothbrushes. Our toothbrush handles are sculpted from Moso bamboo — a sustainable resource that is both durable and inherent with anti-bacterial qualities that protect from germs and mold. Designed to the specifications of dentist recommendations, our bristle heads feature a wave shaped design that cleans difficult to reach areas with soft, nylon bristles that gently massage the gum line.

Meet the Founder, Christina
Why did you start this business?
In 2012, I started PLUS ULTRA in Venice, CA as a response to the global plastic pollution crisis with a mission to eradicate the billions of plastic toothbrushes that are thrown away each year. PLUS ULTRA is the national motto of Spain and is Latin for “further beyond”. I had the phrase “plus ultra” ingrained in my mind and heart since I traveled to Barcelona to study my family heritage. When I returned to Venice, I named my company PLUS ULTRA to pay homage to my grandfather. Today, it’s the mantra we’ve adopted to inspire innovation and forward-thinking. PLUS ULTRA redefines utility to include the greater good by creating products that inspire conscious consumerism.
What impact do you hope to have?
Not only have we brightened millions of smiles over the years, but we've also prevented more than 1,500 tons of plastic from entering our landfills and oceans just by customers switching to our bamboo toothbrushes and kicking their old plastic habit. My hope and goal is to keep creating better products for us and the planet. I've been on a mission to develop products that we use every day, but make them out of eco-friendly and natural materials. Conscious consumerism is a core belief of mine, and I want to make affordable products accessible to everyone in the US.
What is a book or movie or article or experience that shaped your view of the world?
Studying abroad were by far the most impactful experiences in my life. I studied abroad in Barcelona while I was a junior at UCSB to learn about my grandfather's history. In Europe, I learned how small the world is, and I also learned the Spanish national motto "Plus Ultra", which I later named my company after. After my senior year in college, I decided to study abroad again in Bangkok. I saw plastic pollution on a whole new level traveling throughout Asia and Southeast Asia. This sparked my purpose and mission. I would not be where I am today without both experiences abroad.
What was the best advice given to you in your life?
In life, imagine you are building your dream brick house- this represents your long-term goal. If you can add one brick every day to your house, you've done enough. Brick by brick you'll eventually have your dream house.
