"With the holidays approaching quickly and so many of our lives are still upended, it's time to get creative about how to style ourselves when things are still so unstable.
Two companies that are relevant to the season are Rent the Runway and Birchbox.
Rent the Runway (RTR) was founded in 2009 by Jenn Hyman and Jenny Fleiss at Harvard Business School (HBS). It's an online service that provides designer dress and accessory rentals. With different monthly membership options, you can have full outfits delivered to your front door. You then return the items, where RTR takes care of the dry-cleaning, and you can move on to your next trendy piece. This is a sustainable option that fights fast fashion. It is also very economical when you factor in the prices of dry-cleaning any single item (in NYC a single work dress costs around $15 to dry-clean). I used this service when I worked at an office. It lessened the burden of needing to shop for professional outfits while taking care of the laundry aspect! I highly recommend trying them out for looking your best during this stay-at-home holiday season.
Birchbox is the second subscription service I recommend that is for beauty and grooming. Katia Beauchamp and her co-founder Hayley Barna founded Birchbox in 2010. They were also HBS grads. This company sends you sample sizes of beauty (makeup, skincare, etc) products for you to try so you can then pick your favorites which you can then buy the full-size option for. These boxes are a great way to try new brands without committing to the full price or to the full size (which creates waste if you don't end up liking the product). It is a great gift option as well. Check out their holiday box specials!"
